Ironic how my last post was about complimenting Sega and this one will do the opposite.
I direct your attention to the following trailer:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=6l6-Jp…To start off, Hey! Sega! Good for you. You have some cool Sonic meet Sonic animation and such which is okay I guess. As far as I've gathered this is going to be some sort of collection with the most popular stages of the franchise remade in THREEEEEEEEE-DEEEEEEEEEEE.
But on the off-chance that you're actually making some sort of odd time travel or dimension travel storyline in the style of Turtles Forever or Epic Mickey?
DON'T!
DON'T DO IT! FOR THE LOVE OF PANCAKES! You want to make money? I get that. It's cool. It's what companies do. But catering to MY generation is NOT how you make a franchise last! Listen, Sega, I've seen the rise and fall of the blue blur just as much as any other Sonic fan from the 90's, and I'm only turning 21. I guess that you've realised that alot of companies are making cashcows out of nostalgia (I'm looking at you, Capcom) And that you want in on the deal. That's perfectly natural, Not even your good old rivals over at Nintendo put themselves above selling instant Nostalgia in a a can. I mean, I OWN the Super Mario Allstarts 25th Year Celebration edition myself which is just a re-packaging of the original Super Mario All-stars from the SNES with no extra features added other than Wii Compability, and I enjoy playing Mega man 9 or Rocket Knight Adventures from time to time.
Thing is, This generation is not the market you want for a mascot franchise, Nintendo is only pulling that kinda shit off because they know that they've proven to the audience that they can make capable Next-gen installments on top of it. Tell ya what you should do? Why don't you go ahead and finish your project, and then go consider a way to mix your new ideas with the old gameplay the same way you did with Sonic Colors. The cash that you should and can make on this character is not from my generation, at least not a lasting income. You have to convince the parents that's going to take their kids to watch Cars 2 this summer that the Blue Blur is what they should buy for their kids. How do you do that? The same way you made MY agegroup love Sonic, Go make cartoons that focuses on entertainment value (Like the two Sonic The Hedgehog Shows from the early 90's) rather than "Getting the facts right" (Like with Sonic X.)
Give kids toys to beg their parents for, put the Blue one on some lunchboxes and get yourself a new audience. Sooner or later your current one will have other priorities.
